Hello All! Thanks for stopping by my and reading my debut Music Column.
I’m going to be reporting on all things music related in Southend, which means anything from the plethora of pubs who put on live bands weekly, to some of the larger iconic music venues that attract big names in music, to interviews and individual spotlights on events coming up!
Which brings me nicely to Tuesday the 7th of November and the Anchor Inn, Benfleet. The First Tuesday of every month between 8.30pm and 10.30pm is ‘Newnham, Edwards, Vosper and Cecil – Live’ with special guest appearances.
We spoke to band member Trevor Newnham who said ‘Us chaps got together to back the odd singer on gigs and record various sessions for people.’
‘After a gig backing my wife Sarah we kinda looked at each other and said “this is a great lineup we should do more with it” so I approached Mick at the Anchor knowing he is a big supporter of live music.’
‘I asked Mick what his worst night of the week was and maybe we could build it up for him? That was a year ago and it’s been pretty busy most months.’
‘The band are absolutely incredible musicians and each one a true gent too. Sam is the pianist/keyboard player and he regularly plays with 80’s hit band ‘The Real Thing’!
‘Al Vosper is a guitarist to the stars having worked with the likes of Anastasia, Chris De Burgh, Beverley Knight and LuLu to name a few.’
‘I (Trev Newnham) play bass and have worked with Dr Hook, Sir Cliff Richard, The Supremes etc and I’m currently a member of the Illegal Eagles.’
‘Marc Cecil hits the drums and is a popular player on the jazz/Latin circuit having played with the likes of Derek Nash, Paz, Robin Jones’.
So get yourself to the Anchor in Benfleet (SS7 1LS) on the 7th for a great night of music.
Stay tuned for the next spotlight article about Touchline Music in Hockley.
