Soft play centre has ape-tastic surprise for Hockley toddler going through Leukaemia treatment

A popular soft play centre in Hockley had an ape-tastic surprise for a local toddler with Leukaemia who is currently dividing his time between Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and Southend University Hospital.

Charlie, 3, goes to Monkey Bizzness on Eldon Way every Friday with his brother and friends, and for his latest visit manager Carly and the rest of the staff surprised him with a visit from Upsy Daisy and Peppa Pig.

The famous CBeebies and Nick Jr characters then presented Charlie with a giant monkey who will hopefully bring him a smile or two as he enters the next phase of chemotherapy treatment.

After initial doses of chemotherapy, Charlie is about to enter an intensive course of the gruelling treatment for six months, with initial signs looking promising.

Although this might mean that his regular weekly trip to the centre may have to be put on hold for a while, he will have his yet to be named primate friend to remind him of the fun he has there.

Mum Claire thanked the staff and somehow managed to squeeze the new family pet onto their double buggy along with the usual mountain of stuff that accompanies two small children on a day out.

Kind hearted staff at the centre managed to get Peppa Pig and Upsy Daisy to take a break from filming …
